Floyd Jr And Sr Killed Three Months Apart
Wed, February 17, 2021
There's an old saying that "If you can't catch Harry you catch ih shirt" and that's just what happened in the November 24th murder of 45-year-old Floyd Carter Sr. At the time the consensus from the cops was that the gunmen had been after Carter's son - but killed his dad when they couldn't find him.

So, last night when shots rang out in a quiet Lord's Bank neighborhood it was Floyd Carter Jr. who lay dead. It seems both men were victims of fate in a tale that their family certainly hopes has reached its tragic terminus. Cherisse Halsall reports.

19-Year-old Floyd Carter Jr died here on a picado road in Lord's bank on the path from the house of the woman he's been seeing.

This morning a neighbor who witnessed the incident told us what he was able to see in the dark.

Voice of: Neighbor/Eyewitness
"All I heard is that I heard about three gunshots fired and when I got conscious I saw somebody running down this way and the guy just came and he stopped and I heard another couple rounds went off and, well I'm this side and I see somebody run back that way and that was it I didn't say anything, I don't know the guy, I didn't even see his face."

"Until I walked upstairs and my wife looked out and she asked me, what's on the street and then I became conscious and I told her wow that is probably what the guy fired after and so I walked and came out and when I gone I saw the young man lying down on the street with blood flowing out of his head you know and so I just decided, I walked back inside and I called the police and about 5 minutes later and were on the scene and looking around, like doing their check of whatever they need, bullet shells and whatever they found."

"I don't really know the guy who got shot. I hadn't really seen him before, but on Sunday I saw him and a young lady pass here and they went to the store and came back but that was about it, I hadn't seen him around here before. I have no idea who the guy is."

3 months ago Carter managed to narrowly escape death when the men who were said to have been targeting him instead killed his father Floyd Carter Sr.

And last night, the death which had been stalking Floyd Carter Jr. for months finally found him. The cops confirmed that his murder was a hit.

SUPT. Alejandro Cowo
"The information that we had received earlier is that his son would have been the target and because they could not get him they actually got his father who was on the canal side on that night but last night Mr. Carter he was just coming off of his girlfriend's residence and was walking along with one of his brothers-in-law when they were surprised by a male person who came out with a firearm and fired shots in his direction. Unfortunately, he lost his life there and then."

"I cannot be certain that he was lured there but I know that he traverses within San Ignacio, Hattieville, and that area likewise. As of recent he has been frequenting the Lord's Bank area because of the girlfriend that he has at that location."

Cherisse Halsall:
"The police have said that Carter was leaving his girlfriend's house but the family says that if anything this was a very recent relationship, do police have any reason to believe that he was set up in leaving that location?"

SUPT. Alejandro Cowo
"Well, we are following different information that we are getting. We have information that he had previously had some dispute with the common-law-wife or girlfriend as I would call it and that he was detained by police and he was later released because the female did not make a complaint. So, that is one of the leads that we are following that can be a possible motive."

And while it could be a case of street justice, Carter's family says they're confused because as far as they know the young man, who they admit was troubled, had been dating someone else for 5 years and didn't have a girlfriend in Lord's Bank.

Voice of: Floyd Carter's Aunt
"He has his good and his bad like everybody else because we are not perfect but..."

Cherisse Halsall:
"I know he was visiting his girlfriend, do you know anything about the relationship he had with her and how he ended up in Lord's Bank?"

Voice of: Floyd Carter's Aunt
"Miss, speaking of that girlfriend we have no knowledge of her. I know of one girlfriend he had and she lives in Cayo. That's the girlfriend that I know about."

Cherisse Halsall:
"So it was a surprise to you to hear that he was in Lord's Bank?"

Voice of: Floyd Carter's Aunt
"Yes, ma'am, he came on Monday night, be it that we are grieving for my brother he came on Monday night with a knapsack and a little bag in his hand and he came and said auntie I will stay with my mom until after the funeral then I'm going home. That's what he said to me those were his final words before I left here on Monday night after."

And while his family mourns, Carter's death has also rocked, and perhaps forever changed the quiet neighborhood where he was killed.

Voice of: Neighbor/Eyewitness
"It's kinda way out to see a quiet piece of a neighborhood like this and those kinda advantages they took of the situation. I couldn't see the blood down there so I just got a bucket of sand to throw over it and cover it up and that was about it."

Floyd Carter Jr was set to appear in court today in San Ignacio.
