Multiple Police Officers Charged
Mon, February 14, 2022
And while those men await charges, three police officers are in hot water after they all broke the law on separate occasions. Last week, we told you that one of the officers, Angel Coye, was charged after he allegedly assaulted a woman in San Pedro. The other officer, Giovanni Choc, was charged for raping a minor. And today, Inspector David Mckoy was in court for a domestic dispute.

And ComPol Williams isn't playing softball - these men are also under internal investigations. And he said that they've been losing officers left, right and center due to dismissal.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"The policeman in Punta Gorda Town was charged for unlawful carnal knowledge of a 13 year old. The 13 year old reported that she had had sexual intercourse with the officer and based on that, we did our investigation and it led to the arrest of the police officer. In San Pedro we had another officer who was charged for wounding, this is following an incident where him and a civilian had attacked and beaten a woman in San Pedro Town and so I had given the directive that he be charged criminally for that matter. Both officers appeared in court and are currently on bail. We have since interdicted both officers from duty and PSB is also pursuing the internal aspect of those investigations and we hope that they will be heard very quickly and we'll be able to deal with them internally as well. Again it goes to show that we as a department are going after officers that are accused of committing any irregularities regardless of the extent and if there is evidence that is sufficient enough for us to rid ourselves of them then we do so. I can also tell you that currently we have Inspector David Mckoy in custody in Belize City for another domestic issue, he should be charged by the end of the day today and taken to court and again the chips will fall where they may because we're not going to countenance any domestic issue on the part of our officers."

"Since we had the recruit squad 95, we have lost more than 2/3 of those officers to attrition, the majority of whom are by dismissal because everyday we dismiss officers, just that the public don't know, but everyday police officers are being dismissed."

Police say it is the third time Inspector Mckoy has faced an allegation - but it is the first time he is being charged. He is a trained attorney.
