Around noon today, firefighters responded to a blaze on Neal Penn Road extension. It left Evette Bernardes and her 4 Children in disbelief and distress, viewing the charred remains of what they called home. Gladstone Bucknor Station Officer of the Belize District told us more.

"When the guys got the call there's no other house immediately in the area. As you can literally see it's a London bridge to the structure. So there's not an immediate threat to any other structure around it."

"What can you tell us preliminarily, in terms of what you believe to be the cause of this fire?"

"I can't tell you that at the moment, we still have to do some investigation. The guys are mopping up right now, when they are finished mopping up then we're going to go in and see what would be the cause of it."

According to Marsha Belisle, a neighbour in the area said that the wires are what caused the fire.

"Back here is a lot of patched up wires, and that is causing the fires, alright we need help we need help. Back here needs to get fix up, people di struggle, you understand, I have a son in a wheelchair. I had to move in just a while ago because the smoking was affecting him. Come on. We need help with the struggle back here for years. You understand? I the call on everybody or anybody who could help us, help we get some proper streets, and electrical wire. Look up, if you look up watch the patchy wires them, you understand, it's hardworking single parents the back yah."

"All we want do dah live properly, but then we at risk, somebody go to work and come back boom they house deh up the burn down, what if somebody was in the house, you understand. That young lady lost everything and she been struggling to get her self up."

And this was the scene of the ruined remains, the owners watched as the firefighters doused the last of the fire, everything that they had was reduced to ash:

"Today as I got off the phone I got a call from someone that my house was on fire, I don't understand. I don't know what went wrong, I don't know, I try my best and I work its just me and my 4 kids."

"I done cry a lot, right now I feel like I just want drop down and dead, but at the end of the day, God strong he gives me the strength and courage to go on, but I know I left everything eena his hands, if dah wire problem, then no problem if somebody burn down my house and I get fih find out that I just a leave it ina God hands to."

"It's so hard, it's difficult I don't understand. I just bought some new stuff and i haven't used it as yet, and it burnt away."

Left with only the clothes on their backs, this family has tons hope that something will work out quickly for them.
