BSI Burn Victim Succumbs

Long time employee of Belize Sugar Industries Edward Robinson, who received second degree burns to ninety percent of his body in an accident at the BSI Factory in Orange Walk has died. He was injured when a transformer between BSI and BELCOGEN malfunctioned and resulted in an electrical shutdown. At the time, the factory’s steam engines were in operation but its safety devices failed to respond and pressure continued to build that caused one of the condensing pots to burst. Edward Robinson who was walking along the area was showered with the hot boiling liquid.

Edward Robinson who was badly burned from his neck down was first transferred to Belize City where he remained in the intensive care unit at Belize Healthcare Partners Limited. But his condition continued to deteriorate and he needed specialised treatment. Edward Robinson was transferred to a hospital in Guatemala City but his condition never improved and he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

At the time of the tragic incident Edward Robinson had been at BSI for over thirty years.
