The Tradition Lives, Queen Of The Bay

The Annual Queen of the Bay pageant will be held on Saturday night at the Birds Isle basketball court. Today 7 news caught up with the 10 beautiful ladies who will be vying for the 65th Queen of the Bay title.

Shadene Ottley, Organiser
"We have 10 young ladies vying for the prestigious title of queen of the Bay 2010. We have candidates all the way from Independence, Placencia, Corozal, we also have 4 candidates from Belize City itself."

Lisa Guiterrez, candidate
"I am Lisa Guiterrez and I am representing Independence village. I am really proud to be a part of this historic event. I expect to come out with the best and to represent my village to the fullest and to be proud and motivate other females to participate in this historic event."

Monica Bodden
"Now again you age. You care to tell me your age, if you go to school?"

Lisa Guiterrez, candidate
"Well, in this Queen of the Bay I got to learn that a young female never says her age. A lady never says her age. But as far as you can know I am a second year student of Independence Junior College I am completing my Associates degree in Business Science which is environmental science and tourism."

Danielle Rodriguez
"Greetings to me Belizeans at home, I am Danielle Rodriguez queen of the west. I must say that queen of the bay is something very prestige, historic and it requires a lot of dedication and commitment. the experience has been very overwhelming, you have to be prepared at anytime and it's just fun; you get to explore our beautiful jewel Belize, visiting new places, new people and I am just loving it so far."

"My name is Shanice Flowers and I am miss Belizean Pride."

Monica Bodden
"So far how has it been interacting with the ladies?"

Shanice Flowers
"It has been very exciting, I have learnt a lot of things from them because its 9 other girls right and we just have a lot of fun and we learn a lot about each other."

"I have learn a lot from the girls and a lot through this pageant and basically I learn to be a team player."

"You care to tell me a little bit about yourself?"

"Well first of all a young lady never says her age. But I recently graduated from St. Catherine's Academy and I am going to pursue in my studies at St. John's Junior College."

Diana Hemmans
"I am Diana Hemmans representing Belize City."

"Now, Diana first of all you care to tell me how you actually got involve in queen of the bay?"

Diana Hemmans
"Well actually I got some encouragement from some family members and friends and I believe educates you to learn more about your country and I also want to be a part of history."

Ashley Glenn
"My name is Ashley Glenn and I am Miss Placencia. I was encouraged by the whole Placencia Village, my mom, my sisters and mostly my friends. I was Miss Placencia 2008 and so I just decided that I wanted to come out and be a part of history and show my patriotism for my country."

Julie Vargas
"I am Julie Vargas and I am Miss Punta Gorda. I decided to take part in this pageant because my family encourages me and I want to be a part of history and to see what the experience is like."

"The pageant will be right here at the Bird's Isle at 7pm sharp and the tickets are on sale at Record Shack and By-way Gift store on Freetown Road."

And while we didn't have a look at all 10 that's because when we went to rehearsals - after getting the green light from Ms Emma - instead of curtsey's we got a number of the girls cutting style…
