Mammoth March In PG
posted (July 5, 2013)
On Tuesday, we showed you the march in Orange Walk organized by district church leaders headed by Pastors Scott Stirm, Louis Wade and Patrick Menzies of Belize Can. It's part of their countrywide campaign to raise opposition to the Gender Policy, and what they refer to as an insidious LGBT Agenda.

Their argument is that the preamble of the Belize Constitution referes to the Supremacy of God, and they believe that the Gender Policy is in contravention of that.

They organized another march in PG today, where they report that 4,000 people attended. Now, that's a very large crowd for Belize and one we cannot verify, since we weren't there. Wil Maheia of OGTV says it's the biggest crowd that he feels has ever assemble din the Toledo district, but regrettably the pictures he shared with us don't really show that. Still, there's no gainsaying that the crowd was large, and this evening we spoke to Menzies who was elated at the turnout:

Voice of Patrick Menzies - Christian Activist
"So much and counting as they passed. Over 4000 were there, you guys missed the biggest march Belize has had. Total credit to Pastor Rick from the Christian radio station down there in Toledo, himself and about 14 other ministers for the last couple of weeks they were out sharing with people what this Gender Policy is about and stuff like that and so we had announced that we were going to invite the fols from Toledo to join and the Dangriga fols but Toledo decided that they were going to their own and they did - they grab the ball and they ran with it. They did an awesome job - total credit to the folks down south over 4000 and they had to leave 400 behind in the four villages. We had Kekchi, Garifuna, Spanish and English - all kinds of presentation so basically I can understand what they said because I speak all those languages - there is no way that we are going to accept in Belize for this government to get down on our throat with this gender policy because it's violates our consititution. Something was said that we need to stand up against this and we will stand up against it - that was basically recurring message in the speeches. The main focus was this - over 90% of the Toledo District consider themselves to be Christians yet they were not consulted of this policy, for them its a slap in their faces and it's an insult and they completely reject it. That was a major major thing by the gentleman Pastor Rick from the radio station who was actually the one that got the push and facilitated this."

The next March is scheduled for next week Tuesday in San Ignacio.
