Un-masking The Truth About Masks
posted (March 24, 2020)

Manzanero also spoke about another part of the new normal which you saw in Cherisse’s story.  That’s the part with the masks - which are becoming normalised, but Manzanero went to lengths to say those should not be part of the new normal even in a virus - laden world:…

Dr. Marvin Manzanero - Director of Health Services
"If you are not ill, you shouldn't be wearing a mask and I am seeing police officers, transport officers, people doing delivery and I cringe at that because I was waiting at a checkpoint, 3 cars behind and I'm seeing one of the persons wearing a mask in the time I was waiting, actually touch his mask, 3 times and I'm sure if he didn't have a mask he probably would not have been touching his face. It is a false sense of security because what you are doing is your touching a mask that is harbouring viruses, bacteria much more frequently. Just before I came here, there's a gentleman who was walking down the aisle, he has very fancy gloves which have started to change colour because I think he has had all day, then he was on his phone and then the phone rang and the first thing he did was put the phone close to his ears. Whatever protected you intended to have with your gloves, you just transmitted it to your phone, you just transmitted it to your face. So more than a mask, I would be really concerned with the fact that we can't seem to survive without a mobile device and the mobile device is a high incubator for bacteria and viruses and bacteria that can be much more deadly than COVID 19 and I'm not minimizing COVID 19 but I want us to understand that it gives you indeed a false sense of security. I can appreciate you wearing a glove but, still, don't touch your face, don't touch your face, don't touch your face."
