Port/CWU Quietly Meeting; 21 Days Notice Taken Off Table
posted (March 26, 2020)

Three weeks ago, the industrial action at the Port of Belize was all the news.  And while operations have normalised at the Port of Belize, what about the 21 days notice of industrial action that the CWU gave?

Well, without anyone noticing, the two sides have been talking, both in person and with exchanges of letters.  The communication, we are told has been positive and shows signs of progress, if not a breakthrough. And so the Minister of State with responsibility for Labour, Dr. Carla Barnett has decided that the Tribunal should be postponed.  She told us via phone that there is a more positive and productive atmosphere and progress is being made towards the undertaking given in the March 06th letter.

The Labour Commissioner will continue to act as a go-between for the two sides.
