Red Bank Drinkers Charged
posted (March 30, 2020)
At that same time on Saturday night, police from the Stann Creek District busted 3 Guatemalan nationals living in Red Bank Village of engaging in public drinking in front of the community's Convenience Store.

Here's what police had to say about this incident, and why the men are now facing charges for disobeying the social distancing rules:

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"On Saturday, sometime around 8 p.m., whilst police were on patrol in Red Bank Village. They came across 3 persons outside a Chinese establishment, who were drinking. Those persons were learned to be Rene Parham, 28-year-old; Oscar Parham, 32-years-old; and Juan Manchame, 42-years-old, all Guatemalan nationals. They were advised of the offense committed, and they were taken into custody. They have since been arrested and charged with public drinking, as well as failing to abide by the regulations in relation to social distancing."

"Are police that you have a lot of citizens not respecting the social distancing call?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"There are some, but in many instances, yes indeed, people are respecting the social distancing."

We understand that Belize City police arrested and charged 44-year-old Ion Nunez and 44-year-old Leonel Robinson for the same social distancing offense on Saturday. Officers from Ladyville have also charged 33-year-old Dustin Reyes, a resident of Burrell Boom, and 2 gas pump attendants from the Shell Gas Station in Ladyville for the offense of refusing to maintain social distancing.

Reports suggest that persons have been arraigned for at least one of the social distancing cases we told you about tonight; and they were fined $1000.00 each or in default 6 months imprisonment.
