PM on Public Officer Paycuts: "Après moi, le déluge"
posted (August 17, 2020)
And not having to make that super bond payment - which it could likely not have made anyway - makes it possible for government to continue paying public officers - even while running an operational deficit.

On Friday when the PM asked about rumours of an imminent pay cut for those thousands of public officers, the PM rejected it out of hand - for at least as long as he's around:

Reporter
"We had heard a rumour about a reduction in salaries for public officers, proposed of course, but, ahm, any update there?"

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"Not so. Can't update what is a non event, what is not going to happen, ahm, providing we have the elections when we're supposed to. And, as of now, I don't see that there's anything that can interfere with that. In other words, not as long as I continue to hold the reins. But,. that position, unenviable position, lasts now, for what? Less than a hundred days longer? After that - "Apres moi, le deluge.""
