It's clear Akinyela Taylor was a deeply troubled man up there in the skies - where he never should have been. Since the incident, there has been no coherent security strategy put forth by the Belize Airports Authority, no clear accounting of what happened. by the Civil Aviation Department and no sweeping initiatives announced by the National Security Council.
The Prime Minister has told this news room that the National Security Council meets on Monday, and then he reports to Cabinet on Tuesday - and then, after that, a full two weeks after the hijacking - public announcements will be made - we. hope.
Right now, the added security measures have been put in place by Tropic Air acting on its own initiative - with support from the police department. It's a start though - and Howell Grange says he welcomes the change that will prevail when he returns to the air, whenever that is:
Howell Grange, Tropic Air Pilot
"At some point I am going back, but I need for recover fully first, full recovery. I don't know how long that's going to be, because I don't know how long this hand is going to take for recover. I don't know how long I'm going to take for start walk properly."
"It'll be a long process of healing, long, long."
Jules Vasquez
"When you go back, everything will have changed. There will be no security measures. How do you feel about that?"
Howell Grange, Tropic Air Pilot
"Pretty much good. We really took it serious what happened."
