At least 53 people are dead in Guatemala after a bus crossing a bridge collided with several other vehicles and then plunged into a ravine, landing in a river of sewage.
The bus was coming out of Guatemala City at about 4:30 am and crossing a bridge - oddly enough - named Puente Belice when it crashed off the bridge.
The number of dead is expected to rise from the crash, officials said. The driver of the public bus may have lost control of the vehicle because of a mechanical failure, officials say.
Guatemala's president, Bernardo Arévalo, declared three days of national mourning.
