Teen Charged for Gary Thompson's Murder
Tue, April 21, 2009

On Friday night we told you about the murder of 34 year old Shawn Gary Thompson, the 34 year old who was killed when a pair of tried to invade his home. Well police say the invaders weren’t men, at least one of them was a minor, a 16 year old. Today, that minor was arraigned in the family court on three charges: the murder of Thompson, one count of aggravated burglary and one count of robbery.

The charges were read in the presence of his mother but no plea was taken as they are indictable. Talbert was further remanded to the Hattieville Booth Camp until May 20, the date set for his next court appearance at the Belize Family Court.

Thompson and his brother, 46 year old Derrick Mahler were sitting on their step at 5:30 in the evening when two males – one of them carrying a pistol - approached them and ordered them inside the house. The brothers resisted, with Derrick Mahler actually grabbing unto the gun. His brother Shawn Thompson fought with the other assailant and that’s how he was fatally stabbed. And while the brothers fought back, it was revealed in court today hat the pair still did steal a two rings and two cell phones...

We note that the minor accused of this crime has been in Family Court before; that was in August of 2008 when he was charged with the attempted murder of Adolphus Gomez, who was shot in the head but survived. That charge was withdrawn at the request of the victim.
