Eddie Herrera Wins Human Rights Quiz-a-thon
Tue, April 28, 2009

14 year old Eddie Herrera from Orange Walk Technical High School is the winner of the first national Human Rights Quiz-a-thon. He bested 11 other high school students this morning at the Bliss in four gruelling rounds. Following this morning’s win – the second form student told us his hard work paid off.

Eddie Herrera, 1st Place
“Excited and happy, relaxing, all the hard work paid off I think.”

Keith Swift,
How did you prepare for today’s quiz?

Eddie Herrera,
“Well we stayed back after classes every day and on holidays we took time to study and research on documents and other stuff we thought that was important that will be coming in the reserve list and so on.”

Keith Swift,
I know you stumbled on some questions. What was it like up there, what was the pressure like?

Eddie Herrera,
“The pressure was high because all those persons were looking at you and then if you didn’t know the answer you would try try and try until you get it correct. I just tried and when I got it correct I just relaxed and waited until they come again.”

Keith Swift,
Did you learn a lot from this, did you learn a lot preparing for this?

Eddie Herrera,
“Absolutely yes because we researched documents and we studied them and yes.”

Herrera took home an Acer mini laptop and a sixth form scholarship. Tracey Lewis from Wesley College placed second and she too got an Acer mini-laptop. Emmanuel Polanco from Ecumenical High School placed third. The competition was sponsored by WIN-Belize, NCFC, and UNICEF.
