Brukdong Rises Up
Tue, May 5, 2009

Three music CDs will be released this week by Belizean artists. The first one to drop is the second album from Harrison “Dawgie” King. The interesting thing about Dawgie’s album is that producing and recording it didn’t cost him a cent. That is because he took advantage of the opportunity we told you about last month – in which a group called Belizean Artwork.com offering to publish books and record music for free. The title track is “wi pikni di suffa” and it has 9 other songs. He performed the title track for us this morning and told us about the new release and the message about it.

Harrison “Dawgie” King, Releasing CD
“We know what is happening in Belize, all kinds of rudeness and badness, things get hard, and a lot of pickni naked and half naked and out of school and so we had to touch on the subject.”

Keith Swift,
Why brukdong?

Harrison “Dawgie” King,
“That is culture you know. That is my culture and I used to rap and thing but I feel more relaxed and business wise if you are doing dancehall and reggae music that is a Jamaican man thing. Brukdong is a Belizean thing.”

Tiffany Simpson, BelizeanArtwork.com
“His CD reflects Belize and our culture and so that is one of the reasons we went with it first because brukdong is our heritage. This is the first album from under this project. Mr. King contacted us and we decided to start with his album and we are doing one album at a time and we are going from there.”

Harrison “Dawgie” King,
“It is beautiful, it is clean. No bad words, no derogativity, no rudeness, no slackness –it is for the whole family. It is beautiful and clean, world class recording.”

Keith Swift,
If anyone like the gentleman has a CD that they want to record, they can benefit too?

Tiffany Simpson,
“Yes. Just simply call us at 607-1088 and set up an appointment for the recording session or for a book interview and we will continue from there.”

Keith Swift,
And you will provide the recording facility and everything?

Tiffany Simpson,
“Yes everything is provided. From background music to backup vocals, we do everything here.”

The album is in record stores and it can also be bought online at Belizeanartwork.com/Dawgie. Other releases scheduled for this week are from Ken-Dawg and Mr. Program.
