Twelve years - that is the number of years thirty nine year old Levi Jackson
will spend behind bars for the rape of a twenty nine year old woman. It took
four hours for a nine member jury to reach the unanimous verdict of guilty on
Wednesday, but this morning it took newly appointed justice of the Supreme Court
Oswell Legall only one minute to sentence the accused.
In handing down the sentence Justice Legall told Levi Jackson that in the interest
of justice, he must be fair and just to the accused and also to the victim so
he must impose a just and fair jail term of 12 years. During the trial, the
victim told the court that on Sunday, August twenty sixth, 2007 while stranded
at the junction of the Western Highway Levi Jackson who is former co worker
passed by and offered her a ride home. She accepted but instead of taking the
wife and mother of four to her house he turned off into a feeder road, beat
her then raped her.
Levi Jackson was undefended. |
