Still fired up from her participation in Saturday’s COLA march,
Chris Galvez’s aunt Yolanda Schakron is now leading a movement for the
families of crime victims. She told us all about it this afternoon.
Yolanda Schakron, Aunt of Murder Victim
“Right now I am so frustrated. We have done everything, we have given
them evidence, everything. Everybody in Belize Keith, everybody knows who killed
my nephew Christopher Galvez but the Police refuses to act.
We are working on a big banner of all the murder victims, especially unsolved
murders. I have gotten a lot of calls already and people have started to bring
pictures to me. Also we’re working on a website so people could post the
pictures of their loved ones and anybody who has any problem with the police
where they feel there was injustices, bring it forward and eventually what we
want to do is want to form an organization or team up with another organization
so that the government starts listening to us because people in this country
are afraid.”
Keith Swift,
“But do you think this will make a difference?”
Yolanda Schakron,
“Of course we can. The people have the power. We put the politicians
up there. They have to listen to us. They have to listen to us. I voted for
this government and I am demanding, I am a taxpayer, I am demanding to make
something be done. If we don’t open our mouth or say get together as Belizeans,
nobody will do it for we. The people have power but they just don’t know
it.
I am really tired with Chris case but I am not giving up because I believe
that at the end of the day we have to stand up for justice.”
Those pictures can be dropped off at royal wholesale which is at the
corner of Vernon Street and West Collet Canal. |
