Mayor Moya's Criminal Trial Adjourned
Thu, March 11, 2010

Mayor Zenaida Moya first went to court on the first October 2009. Since then, she’s appeared at countless adjournments and today was another. A preliminary inquiry into twenty four offences with which Belize City Mayor, Zenaida Moya and two others are charged with, was adjourned until April 20th, because the defendants have not been given full disclosure. The prosecution has assured the court that full disclosure will be given by March 18th.

Besides Moya, the defendants are City Administrator, Dr. Kiran Vanjani and the Financial Officer Kiran Budriani. The fourth defendant, Dwain Davis died shortly after the charges were filed. The Chief Magistrate, Margaret McKenzie told the prosecution that there has to be an indication from the office of the DPP regarding Davis, because he is now deceased.

Dr. Vanjani is being represented by Attorney, Anthony Sylvestre whilst Mayor Moya is being represented by Senior Counsel Hubert Elrington.
