Soccer: St. Vincentians Arrive To Take on Belize
Wed, November 9, 2011
Belize's National Football Selection has been on a three-game losing streak in its world cup qualifiers and the team can no longer qualify for the next round.

But, it can come in second in the group and at least maintain its current world ranking of 143rd.

To do that it would have to beat St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which is in Belize for a game at the FFB stadium in Belmopan on Friday.

St. Vincent is currently ranked 146 and when they arrived today, their coach told us he thinks they have a good chance of stealing a victory:

Colwyn Rowe - Coach, St. Vincent and the Grenadines National Team
"Yeah, we don't know too much about Belize, but looking at the results, I think it should be close either way. I think whoever does well on the day will win."

Jules Vasquez
"What is the relative strength of your team?"

Colwyn Rowe
"Well, we're very young, to be fair, and in the last few matches, we've gotten stronger. So, I think we're quite good attacking-wise, but we'll see. Things change in games, and as I said, we're very young."

Jules Vasquez
"From your scouting of the Belize Selection, what is the main feature of their game that you have keyed in on, that you hope to exploit?"

Colwyn Rowe
"Obviously, we've looked at them, and we know a bit about them, but I'll be silly to say what we're going to do. You're not going to catch me that easily. But in general, we'll just play the way that we're going to try and play. We're not going to try to do anything particular to stop them, but as I said, it's an intriguing game. I think it's going to be close, and whoever plays well in the day will win."

The World Cup Qualifier will be held this Friday at the FFB Field at 3:30 pm.

The Belize squad is led by current top-scorer in the World Cup Qualifiers, Deon McCauley who is tied at eight (8) goals along with Peter Byers of Antigua.

Deon McCauley is also the top all-time goal scorer for Belize with twelve (12) goals. He is assisted by Harrison "Cafu" Roches who has scored three (3) goals for his club Necaxa in the Honduran League in the last three weeks. Roches is also second on the all-time scorers list for Belize with four (4) goals total, two of which have come in this World Cup Qualifiers campaign.

The St. Vincent team is being housed at the Cahal Pech Resort in San Ignacio, and will have the Georgeville football field for training.
