CitCo Hosts Multicultural Fair
Fri, September 7, 2012
As a part of the tenth weekend celebrations, the Belize City Council will be hosting its 7th Annual Multi Cultural Fair at the MCC grounds. The fair will be held on the 10th of September from 11 in the morning straight through to 9 at night. Deputy Mayor, Dion Leslie stopped by our studios this morning to tell us about the event and the entertainment lineup - including Belize's Prince of Peace, Lova Boy.

Dion Leslie, Deputy Mayor - Belize City
"It's the 7th annual Belize City Council Multi-Cultural Fair and 10th Bram - it's the only thing that is happening on the 10th after the citizen's parade. We invite everyone out to the MCC Grounds at 11am. If the same as we've done for the past years - we will have tents with food, every food that is made in Belize. You can expect from rice and beans to barbeque to hudut, everything we will have there under the food court."

"We will have entertainment under the food court by Mr. Ernesto Babb and Mr. Tony Wright. They are there every year and they put on their own performance within a performance. Of course we have games for the kids; mechanical rides, bouncy house, and trampoline - we offer everything for everyone. It's a family fun day that we try to promote. It's the 7th year and all 7 years have gone off without incidents, this year we are hoping that it will be the same. We have security in abundance between police department and the city council security forces, we invite everyone out. We will have the traffic department out there; they will be patrolling Marine Parade to make sure no one's vehicle is broken into. We are thinking about everything and of course the highlight for the fair every year is the concert and this year is no different - it's bigger than last year. Every year it gets bigger and bigger. Last year some 3,000-4,000 people were at the fair for the concert - Lova Boy was the headline of the concert and we brought him back again because he was such a success last year."

"But year along with Lova Boy we have Poots Titiman, Chico Ramos, Supa G, Taprik and of course the award winning recording artist and entrepreneur Lova Boy the prince of Belize coming all the way from Los Angeles to grace us for a couple hours with his new and old songs bringing the hype and the flavor. We enjoyed his performance so much last year that when we start doing the playlist the first person was Lova Boy. It's going until 9pm and we ask everyone to come out."

Lova Boy
"Salute to everybody and like what he just said last year was a crazy beautiful situation and this year is part 2, so all that I can say is don't miss it. I want to say big up to all the other artists that will be on the show. I am excited for this and I came prepared."

Monica Bodden
"I understand that you have a new album out. Will you be performing songs from that album at the fair?"

Lova Boy
"We have Punta Mania which is the name of my album; we have enough songs that I bring out including a song called "fluffy" and "bend it pan somebody" and I just record a song that I will release right now it's called "Jasmine Lowe" that's my offer of condolence to her family."

"When it comes to music we have enough songs, just come out and enjoy yourself and I am hype to be here."

Monica Bodden
"Tell us a little bit about the tour. How has that been going?"

Lova Boy
"The tour is awesome, I can't complain. As a matter of fact from the time I started tour I haven't stop yet. We just came from New York; we did the park fest and another show at a club. We did Chicago - Belize Day. This schedule we will do the multi-cultural fair and then the Belikin Fest on the 13th and then I am going back to LA for the 16th and come back the 19th to do Griga on the 20th and then PG on the 21st. We are rolling."

Tickets for the fair are 2 dollars for children and 5 for adults.

And the city council would like to remind everyone that on Sunday they will be hosting the 3rd annual Leslie's Imports Belize City Council Cycling Criterium on Albert and Regent Streets. That means both streets will be blocked off from 10am to 5pm.

And one more note, the City Council is asking residents to please be on the lookout against persons stealing flags from the elevated pedestrian crossing at the Belcan junction. So far, eight flags have been stolen.
