Poets Society Wants You to 'Lik It'
Thu, March 9, 2006

It started off as an amateur night for poets at the Putt Putt Bar and Grill on Newton Barracks, but the even called "the lyrical lounge" has blossomed into a full blown movement. The group has grown from 6 members to as many as 55and the group now organized as the Belizean Poets Society is scouting for new members. They today announced plans to hold open auditions for a poetry festival they call "Lik It." The society held a press conference this morning and treasurer Edward Broaster along with interim president Adele Ramos told us what they are looking for.

Edward Broaster,
"Our mission is to support all Belizeans poets through the stages of their career and foster a wider appreciation among Belizeans for poetry. We find that since we started the Lyrical Lounge, a lot of poets have come out and shared their words and a lot of poets who I refer to as closet poets have been coming out now to show their words. The goal for us to promote and generate great poets in Belize, fostering the reading and writing skills of Belizeans young and old while uniting them for one common good which is poetry."

Adele Ramos,
"We're looking to have a big show on April the 7th. Really what we want to do is showcase poetry but not just poetry can go with a lot of the various art forms so we want to bring in other artists, musicians, dancers, and the like to join with us in what we are calling some sort of a festival, its not an ordinary poetry show, it's a festival. We're having auditions on Saturday, that's March 11th at 2 pm. We're inviting anyone whose interested in participating to come out and just like it, show whe unu got."

Again auditions will take place on Friday night for poets over age 18. Younger poets can audition on Saturday afternoon at Putt Putt.
