34 year-old Nathaniel Thomas Jr. will spend 4 years in jail after pleading guilty to dangerous harm. He was accused of stabbing Ellis Ortiz.
It happened at around 7:30 p.m. on January 22, 2012, when – in a dispute over a female - Thomas stabbed Ortiz in the left side of his abdomen. Ortiz
said that Thomas continued to attack him, and he had to defend himself. Thomas stabbed him 5 more times, and the fight didn't stop until after a
bystander intervened and wrenched the knife away from Thomas. Ortiz was rushed to the hospital, where the doctors saved him.
Today when the case was called up by Justice Gonzalez, Thomas informed the court that he wished to plead guilty. He asked in mitigation that his 3
years already served in jail on remand be subtracted from his final sentence for the charge. After consideration, Justice Gonzalez sentenced him to 7
years but he did take into account his time spent on remand.
As a result, he will only spend 4 more years in jail.
