Mon, February 16, 2015
The National Health Insurance scheme has been rolled out to the north. NHI services were officially launched at two newly expanded clinics, Corozal Polyclinic II and Patchakan Presbyterian Clinic.

The Minister of Health - who is the representative for Corozal Bay was all over it at the at the Corozal Community Hospital Compound on Santa Rita Hill, in Corozal Town today:..

Hon. Pablo Marin, Minister of Health
"We are starting to roll out here in Corozal and soon we will be extending this healthcare services. Already working so well in the Southside of Belize and in the south of Belize. Throughout the rest of our beloved country, I am also very happy to inform all Belizeans that this is being accomplished without touching any Social Security reserve."

Dr. George Goff, Chairman - NHI
"Corozal is deserving, just like any other district that has received healthcare. The Southside of Belize City has received it for years. The southern districts has received it for years. Corozal now is about to embark on this journey. All eyes are on Corozal. All eyes are seeing what Corozal will go from here. Why? Because healthcare is something that everybody needs, healthcare is something everybody wants and healthcare is something that I think that if we have it, other things improve within our life - the quality of our life."

The Corozal Polyclinic is within the compound of the Corozal Community Hospital

Approximately 16,000 residents from Corozal Town, Patchakan and its ten outreach communities are expected to benefit.

The Corozal District now joins the Belize, Stann Creek and Toledo Districts - which are all under NHI.

Government is contributing BZ$1.5 Million for the first year of coverage for services in the north.
