Cop Gets 10 Years For Killing Detainee

Police Constable Alpheus Parham, who was found guilty last week of manslaughter for killing prison Detainee Alex Goff, will spend 5 more years in jail. That's the sentence he was handed today by Justice Troadio Gonzalez today.

In his mitigation hearing today, his attorney Simeon Sampson reminded the court that he has been on remand since 2010, and that prior to this conviction, he was of good character. So, after consideration, Justice Gonzalez, sentenced Parham to 10 years in prison, but 5 years were deducted for the time he spent on remand.

In his trial, which ended last week, One police officer testified that he saw Parham go to the back of the cell and shortly afterwards he heard the sound of a gunshot. A second police officer testified that he saw Parham go to the back of the cell and he heard an explosion, then Parham walked out of the station without saying anything to anyone. When the officers went to check what happened, they found Goff, dead with a bullet in his head.
