Belize's national selection was shut out yesterday by Canada's national team at Richardson Stadium in Kingston, Canada.

The game was dominated by the Canadians who had 20 shots on goal to Belize's four, and took 13 corners to our none. And while the final score was 4-0, the Canadian press was disappointed in its team, saying that had they capitalized on opportunities, it could have been 10-0.

That seems to bode ill for game two on Wednesday, but when we spoke to him via telephone this evening, Belize's coach Anthony "Garrincha" Adderley, he was upbeat.

[Via phone from Ontario, Canada] "We lost 4-0. The first half was 1-0. In the early part of the second half, 7 minutes I think, they scored another goal. And then in the last 15 minutes of the game they scored the other two goals."

Keith Swift,
"Coach from what we have read from Canadian press, the Canadian team players are saying basically Belize was walked over. Was that the case?"

Anthony "Garrincha" Addereley,
"Well they dominated the game yes but to say they walked over us no. They had more chances at goal than we did. So the view here is that it's an ugly win."

Keith Swift,
"An ugly win?"

Anthony "Garrincha" Addereley,
"That's the way the Canadian newspaper wrote about it because they are looking at themselves as being 93 and we being 180 in the rankings so they should have won the game easily."

Keith Swift,
"Coach I have also read of the Canadian players bragging that they could have scored 10 goals."

Anthony "Garrincha" Addereley,
"Yes but they didn't talk about the ones that we could have scored too."

Keith Swift,
"And how many are those?"

Anthony "Garrincha" Addereley,
"Well we would have scored 2 or 3 goals and that would have reduced that 10. It would have never been 10. But football is not about what you miss. It is about what you scored."

Wednesday's game will be at 5:30 Belize time and we hope to have some update by the time the news airs on Wednesday.
