Criminals In Cops’ Uniforms Get 20K
Fri, June 1, 2018
There have been a number of armed robberies and home invasions lately. Just yesterday we told you about the hold-up at Hofius and at the Commercial Center.

But, now it's starting to look more like organized crime, as another pair of clever criminals struck again last night - this time as fully outfitted, pretend police officers.

It happened at a Taiwanese man's residence in Ladyville. At around 9:00, Liang Gee Fong and his wife were at their Topnachick Street home - which is not far from police station - when two creole men in police uniforms pulled up on a motorcycle in front of their house.

The men - who looked every bit like real police - said they were there to search Fong's house for firearms and ammunition. But when Fong opened the door for the fake cops, they stormed in, over powered him and tied him and his wife up in their bedroom. They then ransacked the place for about 20 minutes and then left. Fong was able to free himself and his wife and then they called the police. The thieves made off with $5,000 US dollars and $10,000 Belize dollars.

Just on the face of it alone, it's a very disturbing crime, but even more so for police because it appears that organized criminals may be in possession of legit police uniforms. We know the police have been trying to track down a number of what are called battle dress uniforms. These are the types worn by the operational units like the GSU and the SPU. A search was conducted at a home in Belize City last night, but none was found.
