Still No Charges For Cop Who Killed Bike Rider In PG
Thu, June 21, 2018
And while charges were brought within less than 24 hours in that case, the pace of the investigation is far slower in the case of a police officer who knocked down and killed a man in Punta Gorda. 40 year old Corporal Alexander Salam knocked down Selvin Bahadur on Tuesday morning. The 69 year old died form his injuries a short time after. But, police seem to be taking their time with this case - and they told us why:...

DCP Chester Williams, Commander - Operations
"We have since obtained blood and urine sample from Mr. Salam which has been sent to the lab as is the case with every traffic accident. I must say that we have no indication that he was drinking or was under the influence, but those are just the practice that we normally do with traffic accidents and the matter is currently under investigation. As soon as the investigation is completed, then we decide what course of action will be taken. In the meantime Mr. Salam has been issued an notice of intended prosecution, as again, is normally practice traffic accidents where determining who is at fault is difficult. There are been many instances where there had been fatalities and we have not proceeded with charges immediately. We go through a process and thereafter it is only in instances where who is at fault is clear to be seen from what is on the scene that we would proceeded with charges immediately."

Salam and another officer were in a police pickup on their way to a funeral for a fellow officer.
