Waiting For Western Union In PG
Wed, April 15, 2020
And we we showed you at the stop of that story, there are long lines everywhere, especially at Western Union and Moneygram. Belizeans desperate for cash are eagerly awaiting remittances from their relatives abroad. Two of our colleagues in the south have sent in footage showing long lines and growing frustration. We start in Punta Gorda where PGTV captured a line outside Mahung's store which is also the Western Union agent:

Owner of the store, Peter Mahung says that this morning the Western Union machine wasn't working. He called the Belize City Branch for assistance, but the machine didn't come back online until 11:30 - and the store is mandated by the state of emergency to close at 12:00 noon. But Mahung says that if customers couldn't wait they had the option of doing business at another agent down the street. We are told these two businesses play a sort of cat and mouse game.
