Police Constable Terrence Sutherland has since been criminally charged for this fatal accident. This morning at a police press conference, the Deputy Head of the National Criminal Investigation Branch shared what their investigation into the case has revealed so far:

"On Saturday the 8th day of August, 2020, around 11:30am P.C. Terrence Sutherland was driving a police mobile on Morning Glory Street in Belize City when he ran over a male person who was seated on the road. The male person was thereafter taken to the K.H.M.H. for treatment where he died thereafter. The male person was identified as Calvin Wright, 68 years old Belizean of Morning Glory Street, Belize City. An investigation was conducted into the matter and since then PC Terrence Sutherland has been arrested and charge for drove motor vehicle without due care and attention, manslaughter by negligence and causing death by careless conduct."

"He was walking and he fell in that area. It is an accident and an investigation was conducted and that led to the charge. As with every case an internal has to be carried out."

"There will be questions about if the police officer is proven to be at fault in this situation what it means for police due care and attention to human life?"

"Again it was an accident, the police were doing patrol in tht at are at the time and PC Sutherland ran over this person."
20 year old PC Terrence Sutherland, was arraigned late this evening in the Belize city Magistrate 's Court on 3 indictable traffic offenses.
They are- manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct and drove motor vehicle without due care and attention.
No plea taken and he was granted bail of $3,000 plus two sureties of $1,500 each which he met.
