Port of Belize Back To Bargaining Table with CWU
Mon, August 10, 2020
This morning, the Christian Workers Union began negotiations with the Port of Belize's management on behalf of its members who are staffers at the Port.

A week ago, the PBL and the CWU finally signed a collective bargaining agreement to cover the working conditions and benefits that the stevedores will enjoy as waterfront workers. That agreement marked history and the end of 16 years of open hostilities between the Port's Management and the Stevedores.

Well, the Port must now work out an agreement for the port staff, another bargaining unit of the CWU. The first meeting between the two sides happened this morning at the UWI campus, and union representatives told us that at this time, they are in discussing a negotiation framework.

The talks resume tomorrow.

Remembering Gino

And, before we leave tonight, we note the passing of Sergeant of Police, Gino Peck. The 48 year old who was a 29 year veteran of the department who died on Saturday due to complications of stomach cancer.

Peck never led the department or reached the senior command, but was one of the most respected cops we've known. He had a few bad breaks with power players in the department, but Peck was known as an outstanding intelligence officer and a committed family man.

His funeral will be held on Saturday in Independence Village.
