A delivery truck belonging to DHL was allegedly robbed yesterday of approximately $10 grand in cash - but police have their doubts about the theft.
A driver for the company, and an assistant deliveryman, reported to police that at around 6:00 they were parked on the shoulder of the George Price Highway at mile 43 with mechanical difficulties.
They claim that while trying to fix the vehicle, they were ambushed by 2 Hispanic men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The assailants demanded money from the company employees, and fearing for their lives, they handed over the company's bag, which contained about $10,000.
The men then allegedly grabbed the money bag, darted into the nearby bushes, and made their escape.
But, the story seems a little simple and police ended up detaining the driver the delivery man. The cops found out that a white vehicle was seen parked behind the DHL truck, which later left the area.
