Today on Ask The Experts, the Director Of Health Services discussed Belize's soaring number of cases.
By the end of tonight we will have well over 500 cases, and by the end of the week, who knows how many. That puts Belize at fourth in the Caribbean and climbing fast.
Today, in a desultory digression Dr. Manzanero downplayed the comparison:
Dr. Marvin Manzanero - Director of Health Services
"I know there is a graph circulating that looks at numbers. Two things there: you have to look at the dynamics of how we are compared. As I said Surinam, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago have graphs that are very similar to ours and that's because they have border entry points that I think they went through the same process that we did in terms of how we got our cases to where we are now and also when you do a comparison you have to do it by rate per population, because if you compare for example with Dominican Republic or Haiti that are Spanish and French speaking, you might not be able to do an adequate comparison on that. So you have to do it by rates."
We don't know what being French or Spanish speaking has to do with anything, and we stress that PER CAPITA, Belize's infection rate is now among the highest in the Caribbean.
