PM Says Hands Off Criminal Charges Against Public Officers
Fri, August 21, 2020
It's a huge mess: the Police Department charging public officers at Customs, Immigration and the Port Authority.

So, will the Prime Minister intervene to try and have the charges removed? That's what the press asked him at today's press conference:

Reporter:
"Especially considering what the comptroller of customs and port authority have asked for a review of the matter while the police commissioner is not budging?"

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"I can't, I don't see how I can, the police commissioner has preferred charges, that is now a matter before the courts. I do know that there is going to be some kind of a meeting on Monday with the various heads of department and the commissioner of police, a meeting I think that is going to be presided over by the Minister of National Security so that the air might be cleared. I can very much sympathize with those heads of department that are looking out for the welfare of their officers, on the other hand, the commissioner of police naturally did what he thought the circumstances and his duties under the law obliged him to do, but let us hope that any bad blood that now exists as a consequence of what has happened can be addressed in this meeting that I have disclosed will happen on Monday."

We'll tell you what comes out of that meeting on Monday.
