Police Says Victims’ Gathering Was Illegal
Mon, June 28, 2021
During today's press briefing, Police spokesperson Fitzroy Yearwood was asked about this shooting. He told the media that according to police information, these 3 civilians were engaged in an illegal social event since they don't live in the same household. Here are his comments:

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood - Director of Communications, ComPol's Office
"On Friday, 25th of June, sometime around 10:40 p.m., they had some individuals socializing at a yard on Victoria Street, 2 males and a female. Jeffrey Pott, Derek Jones, and an elderly lady were socializing when they were approached by a male individual, who came up behind a fence and opened fire on them. That person then ran through an alley opposite where they were [and] made good his escape. Pott received injuries to his stomach, listed in a critical but stable condition. Jones received an injury to his foot. He's listed in a stable condition, and the female received injuries to the stomach also, who's listed in critical condition. So far, our investigators are following up on some leads, where they believe that they have obtained useful information, and hope to make an arrest soon, or detention of persons believed to be involved in this incident."

"Sir, is there any explanation as to why it happened in the first place?"

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood
"Daniel, to be very honest, on that street, in particular, we have a few residents that police constantly visit because of various infractions of the law. So, I will not pretty it up to anything. They were out socializing, which we have begged - stressed on - for people to cease from doing this time due to the pandemic. So, for any or multiple reasons, they were easy targets because of being out in the open like that, and not knowing which direction any person or maybe somebody who has a conflict with you would want to launch an attack."
