But the SMARTEST of clinics won't be able to stop the kind of COVID spike that could come from a super spreader event. We're talking about the annual Spanish lookout EXPO, a 100 strong business event that's hoping to attract quite a crowd.
When asked about the EXPO set to take place in what is considered a mask mandate's no man's land, Minister of Health Bernard said that his team at the Ministry has the situation well in hand.
They spent the weekend reviewing the appropriate protocols and a plan for the adequate spacing of the event. Here's how the minister explained it:
Hon. Kevin Bernard, Minister Of Health
"I know Dr. Morey and his team went out there last week and I got a brief report. I'm to meet with Dr. Morey later today for him to give me full details of where he believes, I said to the people at Spanish lookout when they initially wrote that we are not here to stop business, we are not here to stop any kind of activity that will help generate economic movement within our space but at the end of the day we must do it responsibly and so the S.I. speaks of the number of people that are to be gathered and if you need to request special permission then you come to the Ministry of Health and you get that permission. SO, before I even responded to say you know what go out and let's have a full blast EXPO, initially we gave the permission but we retracted that and said you know what we need to send our medical team and get an analysis of how it's going to be look at the layout, look at the plan out in the necessary restrictions."
"You could speak of any event. It is up to us to make sure that we are doing what is right, wear your mask in public and while you mention that the mennonite community, I understand that there is an issue there but I think the guideline that we are telling them is that you must wear a mask, so if you fail to do so then we cannot have a, we cannot have then, an EXPO. You as the organizer must follow the rules we are telling you to what we are setting out for this event to take place."
