Tue, September 20, 2022
And over the weekend, a tragic drowning, that of 24-year-old Jamire Borland who drowned on Sunday when his Canoe overturned off the Coast of Cattle Landing. Borland was said to be accompanied by two other persons when something went wrong and caused the boat to overturn. Jamire and his companions all attempted to swim to shore but for some reason he didn't make it. Today the press asked the police press officer what police investigation has unearthed about this tragic death.

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Director, Belize Police Department
"Somewhere in Cattle Landing Village, Toledo District where Jamire Borland, one of his friends and another brother were out fishing about a mile from the shore on a makeshift raft that was made with two kayaks and some lumber fastened to it. The makeshift raft unfortunately collapsed and the friend was only able to rescue one of the Borland brothers and unfortunately Jamir lost his life during this incident."

"I know that officers are still investigating this even though we got an account from Borland's brother. We still have to investigate anywhere where a life has been lost. But for now, it is being ruled as a drowning by accident."

And Jamire who is said to have been a talented and dedicated dancer is mourned tonight just by his immediate family but by his dance community who will also miss him dearly.

In a post, Borland's friend Crysel Gabourel remembers him fondly saying quote: "He had so much life and character! He was humble and always willing to collaborate and learn[...]You brought passion to what you represented. I'm sorry that your life was cut short. I will forever remember you, A fiery soul!"
