Tonight, the Briceno Administration is celebrating a new online portal that has been launched to provide citizens with access to government sources. It's called the Online Business Registry System, or OBRS for short, and it allows persons and businesses to get online access to services from the Belize Companies and Corporate Affairs Registry.
The main features of this new portal include registration of businesses, access to a company's profile and history, reminders on annual filing to each user, ensuring that their business status remains active and in good standing, verifiable E- certificates of registration or incorporation, name reservation, and E- filing.
This new system was officially launched today, and with the help of the Government Press Office, we have a few comments from the officials who implemented this new online portal:
As you heard one of the interviewees explain, All documents held by the prior registry systems have been digitized, and new data security and client confidentiality features have been implemented in this system.
Of course, while it sounds all hunky dory and modern, the revised charges we have seen - some of them in US dollars - are prohibitive and - in the view of this newsroom - not likely to create greater ease of doing business.
