Brazilian Human Smuggling Victims Found In Corozal
Fri, March 24, 2023
In the past few months, we've reported on human smuggling operations involving Cubans, then Venezuelans, then Haitians, and now its Brazilians being smuggled through Belize heading to el Norte. 22 of these South Americans were found in Corozal last night, including 1 minor - who was handed over to the Human Services Department. They were taken to the Miracle hotel in that town. We are told there is a language barrier because they all speak Portuguese.

But, nonetheless, they had no valid visitors permit and 11 of them were taken to court today, 8 pleaded guilty, and 3 not guilty.

Those 11 were escorted to prison while the other 10 are in custody at the Corozal Police station.

The Immigration Department has contacted the Brazilian consulate in Belize.
