Last Thursday, we brought you an update on 40-year-old Glenda Estrada, the pregnant woman who was knocked down by a vehicle in July. She and her baby had survived at the time, and she was taken to a hospital in Guatemala to continue receiving treatment since the right side of her body was left paralyzed.
Her husband, Nelson Pech, came to our studios last Thursday to ask the public for financial assistance. But four days later, Estrada passed away. Pech confirmed today that around 1:00 this morning, he received a call saying his wife succumbed to her injuries. Currently, he's on his way to Guatemala to find out more.
He said the way he feels right now cannot be described, but that he needs justice now more than ever, especially since his three kids - including a newborn son - are now left without their mother.
But on Thursday, he told us that the driver responsible had still not been charged.
Nelson Pech, Husband of Accident Victim
"It's a shock for me because I didn't expect that. The bills in the hospital are high and I haven't been working for almost the same time my wife got knocked and we haven't gotten assistance or nothing from the person who did it."
Reporter:
"When was the last time you spoke to the person?"
Nelson Pech, Husband of Accident Victim
"Well, I think one time I spoke to her, she rejected that, [she said] that I am confusing her, she's not that person, so I didn't bother again."
"Until right now, police haven't done anything, they haven't done charges, nothing, they have reached out to me to say we got some information, nothing."
Again, if you want to assist this family, Pech can be reached at 662-8856.
