The new Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegadapola is putting her magistrates under manners with a stern memorandum she sent out 3 days ago.

The memorandum calls the attention of senior magistrates on their attire and punctuality. The document reads that all magistrates should report to work by 8:00AM and begin court at 9:00AM. It reminds them of the strict working hours, and also stipulates a dress code. It says Magistrates must wear suits, dresses or blouses and slacks in the colors white, black, gray, or blue. And it also informs them that punctuality and attire of magistrates will be looked at for appraisals.

Grumblings we have heard form inside the court is that the dress code is oppressive since many of those courtrooms are not air conditioned.
