Ricardo Borja - his death was framed as the mysterious murder of a young businessman. But, new details emerging tonight paint a much darker picture. It seems Borja may have been killed because he knew too much about a systematic land fraud scheme he was involved in - and he was getting ready to spill the beans on big players in the public service, and the real estate sector.

Jules Vasquez re-visits the story:

28 year old Ricardo Borja was killed 5 days ago at this apartment off Coney Drive by a gunman who ambushed him. It has all appearances of a hit - and police have been looking for clues in his real estate dealings as a land consultant.

The commissioner confirmed this for the second time when we spoke to him yesterday:

Reporter:
"To Ricardo Borja, I'm not sure if there's any update with his case. But we understand that his real estate agents or his real estate dealings."

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Yes, we have received a number of information pertinent to Mr. Borja and we are looking at those as possible reason why he was targeted. But that is something I'm not going to divulge more as it may hinder our investigation process."

No suspects have been named - but clues may be revealed in a mysterious recording which was posted on YouTube yesterday and taken down by this morning.

The 23 minute audio recording is posted with a plain paper claiming that he was involved in a vast multi million dollar real estate scam - which had been discovered.

The caption for the video post alleges, quote, "on August 22nd Borja was to meet with attorneys…and the special crimes Unit to provide piles of evidence, Whatsapp messages, files, GOB Corporate seal stamps, videos and photos, testimony, etc…." End quote.

We cannot vouch for the veracity of that and police would not confirm it, but Borja was killed two days before this supposed meeting where he was allegedly going to reveal all about this vast network of fraud.

He leaves two children behind and his well appointed home on Faber's road bears the bow of mourning.

But, was he taken away from all this to stop him from exposing fraud?:

Ricardo Borja, Deceased
"My assets that I obtained was way before any of these things happened, because I am not willing to go through any criminal procedures, I have two daughters, right. And the reason why like I told (name excerpted) if shit hit the fan. I'm going to talk because I'm not going to be the same idiot where I'm just going to be taken a fool of, I'm just going to sink myself, I think it hasn't hit the fan; I think it hit the fan when it's out there."

And it still isn't out there. In the recording Borja gives details of a vast fraud operation which even involved fake nationality and land documents:

Ricardo Borja, Deceased
"When it comes to passports and titles I do not create it. I'll be very straightforward. I didn't entertain that issue at all but I knew that they were created. I knew that titles were created and that it all started through doing grants of administration permits and I think I at least found 13 of them."

The YouTube video promised that one would be posted every day - but the page has been taken down - and it's unknown if the full disclosure of Ricardo Borja's secrets will ever be known.

When asked about the principal player named in the alleged scam, the area representative had no comment today:

Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Youth, Sports and Transport
"I'm not quite familiar with the gentlemen but I heard of his name before and that will be my only comment that I have heard of him but I have no connection with him and that is my conclusion."

Reporter:
"Sir How did you meet this man?"

Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Youth, Sports and Transport
I have met him once when we won the election in 2020 there was a contention with a piece of land Santa Cruz because I didn't want to go back to the community that was the only time i met this gentleman, I have never met him again after that."

Reporter:
"And you took away land he was claiming?"

Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Youth, Sports and Transport
"I'm not the minister of lands so that question so that question you ask the minister of lands, I don't want to comment it's not my ministry."

I gotta go, I gotta go. I gotta go. No more questions.

And so while mention of this name sent the minister into the door of a locked elevator -

the person in question is also avoiding comment, he has not answered our request for an interview.

We did reach out to some of the persons mentioned in his statement, but got no response.
