Electric Bus Runs On The Horizon
Fri, September 29, 2023
Supplying electricity to rural villages isn't the only sustainable energy project the Ministry of public utilities is working on at the moment with the EU. They are also moving closer towards the final stages of bringing electric buses into Belize. The Minister of Public utilities shared with us some of the bus routes they plan to explore once the vehicles are in country...

Michel Chebat, Minister of Public Utilities & Logistics
"So the Electric Vehicle Mobility Project is being sponsored to the European Union again and it is being managed by the United Nations Development Project. And it is an important project because what it seeks to do is to introduce electric busses for the first time into our country. We have two pilot projects we're going to be doing. One is going to be for Belize City for the intercity runs, and the next one is going to be an intra district run that will run."

"At this time. We're looking at from Corozal to Benque Vejo. And so it is important because it helps us to achieve some of the international commitments we've made, especially in terms of the reduction of carbon emissions. So this is an important project, and we're hoping that as time goes by, people are going to see the benefit of using electric vehicles and perhaps lessen our dependency on fossil fuels."
