Jingle Box Rocks
Tue, December 12, 2023
Families in need might just receive a little extra joy this season courtesy of Bowen and Bowen. Today they hosted their annual Jingle box initiative, handing over 250 boxes of Christmas goodies to NGO's. Jomarie Lanza has the story:

For the 14th year in a row, Bowen and Bowen continues to spread the holiday joy by distributing jingle boxes to families across the country who are in need of some extra joy this season. A total of 250 families will receive boxes containing an assortment of food items and goods needed to craft up a traditional Christmas dinner. Its a collaborative effort between Bowen, its employees and numerous NGOs who will distribute the boxes. Corporate relations manager, Rosanna Villanueva told us more today.

Rosanna Villanueva, Corporate Relations manager, B&B
"So this is our 14th annual jingle box project and we are very proud of this project. It started by us trying to help these young families who you know may have some more needs than others during this time of the year and how it comes about is our employees give up their personal funds, so we collect collect from our employees across the country, whatever they contribute, the company matches it. And this year we are very fortunate. We were able to get additional funds from the Coca-Cola company, so we are very happy that this year we are able to do 50 more boxes, so we have 250 boxes going out and we were also able to put a wider variety of items in the boxes themselves. So we are very pleased, and very grateful to our members, and to everyone who contributed to it."

Now the heavy lifting begins, as these boxes were taken away from the B&B headquarters this morning by their NGO's, soon to be delivered to the doorstep of a family in need. Once the NGO's take over, they will decide which families could use a jingle box of joy.

Rosanna Villanueva, Corporate Relations manager, B&B
"We have partner NGOs that we work with. They have a wide network across the country and they are aware of the people who need these boxes. So we work along with them and each of them gets a certain number of boxes that they distribute. We also send out some boxes through our sale centers, and our employees across the country, so these boxes that you see here are going to be passed around across the country over the next week or so. They work very closely in their communities as well so they are aware of the people who need them and so we do send out a certain number of boxes through our members in the districts."

We also heard from some of the organizations themselves, as to how they will go about selecting the jingle box recipients.

Joel Dara Robinson, Dara's feeding programme
"For me, first of all I want to thank Bowen and Bowen staff and the management. I think I've been on this from the very first starting. We are always grateful and for me it's a bit difficult but what I try to do is choose the kids who have the best behavior and give them because a lot of need comes to me and so I come I pick someone with good behavior you know the kid who doesn't give me any trouble they are rewarded with one of the boxes them."

Monica Heredia, Volunteer and Youth Development manager, Belize Red Cross
"The Red Cross has received 15 boxes and we are very grateful as you know a lot of people that need help often come to the Red Cross. We help fire victims, last year we were able to take these boxes and give it to people with disabilities so this year we have created a list of people who are in need and we will be distributing it to them hopefully by the end of this week so they have something in time for Christmas."

Maggie Vargas, Development Director, hand in hand ministries
"These boxes that we are getting today will go a long way. We have three programs recently. We built our 500th home in one of the programs. We also have an I'll reach program and we have a scholarship program every year when we get donations such as these we try to spread the love across all our programs, so these boxes are going to be spread with all the three programmes that we have and this year in particular it's going mostly to the families I our scholarship programme."
