So who gave the order? Well, that is still unclear. And those vagaries are fueling increasing public rejection of the land deal. A fair section of public opinion seems convinced that it's a sweetheart deal and tonight, the NUTCB is calling it corruption.

They sent out a press release today calling on the public to support a peaceful demonstration in front of the Prime Minister's office in Belmopan.

The release says " We will be joining forces with Nigel Petillo and various civil society organizations to advocate for a better future for Belizeâ€"one free from corruption, misfeasance and kleptocracy."

Petillo has been leading the charge since earlier in the week and we spoke to him about what the message and intent of this protest will be. He had a lot to say.

Nigel Petillo
"First of all, we want to stop this. This this sale needs to stop. First of all, Make us stop and start over. The loan that was given to the country by the Saudis, mentioned that there was going to be a medical hospital on the University of Belize campus. That was attractive enough to any lender that, hey, the government wanted something that is perfect for us."

"I welcome the idea of the hospital, but we want better clarity as to why it can't be on UB land versus this land that is harbored by, I don't know how much longer we have to stay here right now because I can't even take this scent here. But the bottom line is this is just it's unfair. The president of the NTUCB Mr. Luke Martinez, showed the receipts of the price that it was cost in 2018 for around $610,000."

"5, 6 years later, we are buying it back now. First of all, we sold them for 610,000. We, the people, and they know we are buying back we the people again for 6.9 million. That's ridiculous. That that's very questionable. So that is one of the main issue we want it to be stopped. We want us to discuss it over."

"Did you shop? Did you look for value, for our money? Did you look for other land in the area? Because I can tell you about other land right in the area that they are selling much cheaper and that are more adequate for the purpose of the land. So we welcome the hospital idea and everything, but we want it on UB compound. Let us go back to that compound. That compound has 800 acres."

"Don't tell me about that dirt road that you showed there. There's an investment next to the area capital investment just built paved road, light, water, a full community is there, jumo right of of there right into UB land. So they are finding excuses that just don't make sense. See you tomorrow morning at 8am sharp. Bring your water, bring your sandwich."

"Don't bring any gun, no machete, no tire. Hey. No. Tire. Yeah."

Police have given them a permit for the protest. 7News will be out there tomorrow.
