Thousands of spectators flocked north on Independence Day, for the final highlight of the September celebrations, which was Orange Walk's Carnival road march.

And if you're one of those Belizeans who rely on public transportation to get around, then you may have a sense of how hectic traveling can be on public and bank holidays, specifically traveling by bus. Commuters complained that there were not sufficient buses on carnival day, and people had a hard time getting in and out of Orange Walk by bus because there were too few runs. The Minister of Transport says that it is a problem they are well aware of but hope to rectify it before the next public and bank holiday weekend.

Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Sports
"I don't know if there are not enough buses and yes people travel over this weekend because of September celebrations and in other countries you go sometimes you may plan for a certain amount of passengers and then it escalates. Especially during the holiday we try to put on as many buses as possible but unfortunately it was not enough."

"For November 19th we make sure there are enough buses scheduled so we talk to all operators to make sure they have enough buses for us and the November 19th celebration in the south because most Belizeans who cross the country travel to the south for that particular event so I can assure you there will be enough buses for November 19th."
