But participating in this year's games is costing the National Sports council a pretty penny. Normally the jerseys would be given out weeks before the games commence, but this year athletes received their sportswear just days before. We asked the minister if sourcing the funds to pay for the jerseys is what kept them back:

"It doesn't matter once it is done before the event and we still have five days before we travel to Salvador so today all the teams across the country will see their uniforms at least four or five days in advance before that particular time to leave so I think we are in good order."

"Even though the funds for the sports council is limited it is properly managed and so as we start to clear some expenses we will have money to meet these requests and demands from the different athletic associations."
