UDP Says September Murders Increased By 167%
Wed, October 2, 2024
The Commissioner of Police almost made his own State of the Nation Address back in September when the Leader of the Opposition said that murder was up by 40% in 2024. The compol said that was wrong, and up to the end of august there was actually one less murder so far in 2024.

Well, September is finished and the UDP has struck back at the Compol in a new press release. The party says, "In the month of September, murders increased by 167 percent in comparison to last year…All this while the ones deemed to be Belize's most dangerous were locked away." The release adds, "Overall, with a three month SOE detention period, there has already been a 15 percent increase in murders, 78, in comparison to the end of September 2023, (which was at) 68."

In another release, the party also calls out police constable Luwis Pascascio - who allegedly pistol whipped Olympian Shaun Gill. They lament, quote, "the continued public defense of rogue police officers like Devon Makin, convicted abuser Inspector Christopher Martinez and other favored cops encourage these outlandish acts."
