A Santa Elena man is currently in Guatemala seeking medical treatment after a road traffic accident badly injured one of his eyes.

It happened on Tuesday and while details are scarce, we can tell you that the victim, Luis Lemus, was on a motorcycle when he was hit by a BATSUB Land Cruiser driven by a British soldier. Lemus' motorcycle caught on fire and he was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. He is now in Guatemala trying to save his eye.

Police are investigating - but we should note that British soldiers assigned to BATSUB have immunity from criminal prosecution in Belize.
