But he did speak about Israel's disregard for international and humanitarian laws as it continues to bomb the Gaza Strip in Palestine relentlessly. It's been one year since the heightened massacres, in which time hospitals and schools have been destroyed, a blockade has prevented food and fresh water from entering, and hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians have been murdered.

After all this time, is Belize still supporting a two-state solution?

We asked the Foreign Minister for his thoughts.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs
"That's something I addressed at the United Nations General Assembly in our speech on behalf of Belize. We made that fundamental point and that has to be sacred, sacrosanct, the disrespect for International humanitarian law, for international law. And these rules that we have long regarded as essential to the survival of humanity, particularly for small countries like Belize. If countries are allowed to completely ignore these laws, these rules that we have in place, humanitarian rules, ignore international law. That obviously sends a terrible signal to the rest of the world. So we have been a very clear, strong voice and that's why Belize, long before most countries, we have taken a very firm position on this, we have suspended relations with Israel, that remains in place, because of that very issue. And we have been a leading voice in terms of the international court of justice, our agent, Assad Shoman, participated in those hearings, expressed views on behalf of Belize which highlighted as you rightly said, that we as an international community cannot allow Israel to continue to absolutely violate international human rights law, international law, there has to be consequences for that."

Reporter:
"Last night on Uncut, Assad was a guest and he did not align himself with Belize's two state solution position. Is this still the position of the government?"

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs
"Yes it is. I know very well Assad's position is an evolving one, a new and enlightened position and he has shared it with me and discussed it with me, and I think there's a lot of merit in his analysis of where we are now and of course he has had the opportunity to engage with a lot os historians and a lot of intellectuals who have studied this issue very carefully and so I think, again, Belize's position remains a commitment to the two state solution but I think it's something we have to constantly review."
