Unity Convention In Images, From Boots' Dancing Shoes To Tracy's Female Triumvirate
Mon, October 21, 2024
But that hasn't happened - and it does not appear to be imminent.

News Director Jules Vasquez was also at yesterday's big event and here's what he saw:

The Unity Convention as it was dubbed had all the appearances of a financially well-oiled political machine.

We saw dozens of buses, hundreds of supporters in waves of red, drums to fuel a celebratory atmosphere, and of course, dolla beer, a fixture of any successful mass party event.

Inside, it was all hugs and handshakes for Tracy Panton - who planned to claim leadership this day.

For the supporters, they knew the words well enough to the UDP song, and they should, it's 30 years old.

But that may have been the appeal of this day - that by invoking the music of a previous era or iteration of the UDP - they could reclaim some of its glory, or maybe its unity.

The seating in the center of the Center was reserved for the party's most faithful, its delegates and in the VIP section.

Many prominent figures from the Barrow era were visible Including former senators and trusted advisors to the former PM, Steve Duncan and Doug Singh. They were here today to try to eject his son.

We even saw Erwin Contreras and of course, Boots had on his dancing shoes.

The event's shot callers stayed in strategy mode.

And while Saldivar may have been the key strategist in a woman - centric event, females were thrust to the foreground and Anne Marie Williams was the special guest speaker.

And when it was time for voting, Tracy Taeagar Panton was the first to cast her ballot. While Queen's Square Godwin Haylock and his delegates may have made the biggest splash of the day.

Supa G made the biggest sound and even got the leader to do a little jig.

They waved the UDP flag. And the new all woman leadership triumvirate let themselves be heard:

Tracy Panton, Interim Leader, UDP Alliance For Democracy
"We need to take our party back! There is no turning back. We are moving forward! and one United Democratic Party."

And while they can dance in a lavish political show - at the end of this day, the UDP was no closer to electability

So, while they celebrated and fulminated:

Patrick Faber, Collet Area Rep.
"Never again will be allow our party to fall into the hands of dictators."

The one they call a dictator had secured the office, and the secretariat - with police and private security - retaining hold of the UDP headquarters and the proprietary rights on the UDP name:
